Casa Sevana is located in Playa Carrillo – 7 km or 4 miles from Playa Sámara – on the Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula, in Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica.
It is 4 miles or 7 km between Sámara and Carrillo.
The road to Carrillo from Sámara is the fist left turn coming from Nicoya.
The road is asphalted and it's an easy drive.
It takes 2 hours to drive to Carrillo from the Liberia airport – LIR – and 4 hours from the San José airport – SJO – using the toll road via Caldera, #27. Using the Inter-American Highway, #1, from SJO takes 5 1/2 hours.
A 4x4 is necessary to drive between Hojancha and Carrillo. The road was redone in 2008-09 but sadly never finished and about 8 km remain a dirt road. This is however a shortcut when going to San José, unless one needs to go to Sámara. In that case, it’s better to drive via Nicoya.
Casa Sevana is located in the village, 800 feet (250 meters) from the main street. While the ocean is only 600 feet (180 meters) as the bird flies west of the house, the beach is reached via the road - both by foot or by car - and the distance is a little less than 0.5 miles (750 meters). It is an easy walk - slightly uphill from the beach to the village though - with very light traffic on the main street and hardly any traffic at all on our street (starts opposite hotel Esperanza).
